RESCHEDULED – Walking the Bowery
November 14 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
The tour was rescheduled for November 14th after an illness.
Home of Yiddish theatres, grand bank buildings, education centers, and flophouses, the historic Bowery had it all. One of the first major thoroughfares of New York City, the Bowery quickly earned a reputation as a place for for wild fun and anything-goes attitude. But it also attracted altruists, including those at the Eldridge Street Synagogue. Join urban historian Barry Feldman on this roving exploration of the famous Bowery. Visit one of the early sites of the Eldridge Street Synagogue and learn about their relief efforts along the street. You’ll also visit the grand Cooper Union building, the former sites of Amato Opera House and music venue CBGB, and the former homes of Bela Barton, William Burroughs, Steve Brody, and Stephen Foster. Meeting place provided upon registration.
