For Families! A Rosh Hashanah Restoration

September 17 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Join us for a fun-filled Rosh Hashanah Family Event. We celebrate the Jewish New Year and new beginnings at Eldridge Street.

When the Eldridge Street Synagogue opened its doors on September 4, 1887, the Lower East Side was overflowing with recent immigrants getting ready to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Over time the Jewish population of the neighborhood dwindled and the synagogue fell into disrepair. Fortunately, people rallied to rescue the building. Today, as Eldridge Street celebrates its 13oth year, discover how this 19th-century synagogue was rediscovered and transformed. Follow mysterious clues, explore our new exhibit on the synagogue’s restoration, and create holiday-themed works of art.
