Cinema Chats | Gone With The Wind Revisited

October 21 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Cinema Chats

Discuss historic movies and their place in modern-day culture in this new monthly series! Each month, expert leader Lucy Shahar will guide movie buffs and novices alike in discussing one movie, its legacy and its place in American or Jewish culture. New guest speakers each month will enliven sessions with their expertise and insights. Attendees will have a chance to watch each movie before meeting for the discussion – but it’s not a prerequisite for attendance.

Our first session will discuss Gone With the Wind and invite author and film critic Molly Haskell. Ms. Haskell has written the widely acclaimed “From Reverence to Rape: the Treatment of Women in the Movies,” “Holding My Own in No Man’s Land: Women and Men and Films and Feminists” and “Frankly My Dear: Gone With the Wind Revisited” (2009). Her most recent book is “Steven Spielberg: A Life in Films” (2017). Ms. Haskell will share her research and thoughts on the making of Gone With the Wind and the recent controversy concerning its treatment of enslaved people and women.

This event will take place live on Zoom. You will receive a Zoom link upon purchasing your ticket and it can be found in your confirmation email along with other important information about the course.
