Celebrating Love & Wine

This past weekend marked the minor Jewish holiday Tu B’av. For modern day observers, Tu B’av is the celebration of love. However, in Ancient Israel, the holiday traditionally marked the beginning of the grape harvest. Young, eligible girls donning white dresses danced beautifully throughout the vineyards, celebrating this joyous occasion.

Tu B’av officially ended last Friday night, but let’s keep the party going! Here are three delicious Manischewitz cocktails you can make without having to dance in the vineyards.

The Manischewitz Martini

Channel your inner Jewish James Bond with this bittersweet Martini. According to RealSimple.com, this mixture uses Manischewitz’s sweetness to offset dry gin and citrus.

Place 2 ounces gin, 1 ounce Manischewitz, 1/2 ounce lemon juice, and 2 dashes orange bitters into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously (without injuring those around you) and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

mojito-2The Manischewitz Mojito

Using fresh blackberries and basil you will have a treat every bit as flavorful as a standard mojito. This fizzy little number is both sweet and refreshing.

Combine blackberries, lime juice, sugar, and basil in a high clean ball glass. Mix until the blackberries are crushed. Add crushed ice, rum and Manischewitz stirring to combine. Add a bit of seltzer, garnish lemon wedge, and enjoy.

The Manischewitz Sangria

Perfect for summer BBQs and parties, this simple recipe will knocks your socks off. Use plenty of peaches and apples and let the drink marinate for a bit.

Chop fruit into small pieces. Add Manischewitz, vodka, and lemon-lime soda to taste.
