An example of illumination inside the Eldridge Street Synagogue
The stained glass Rose Window inside the Eldridge Street Synagogue

The sanctuary was always brilliantly illuminated, originally by gas and beginning in 1907 by electricity. All of the synagogue’s beautiful brass fixtures, including the enormous central chandelier, have been restored and once again grace the sanctuary. Skylights in the roof bring natural light flooding into the sanctuary throughout the day. The sanctuary’s ritual lights, including the ner tamid (eternal light) and menorah have been returned to their proper places at the front of the sanctuary.
