The stained glass Rose Window inside the Eldridge Street Synagogue

Sixty-seven stained-glass windows, comprising more than 250 panels, punctuate every side of the sanctuary. The jewel-toned windows created a world apart from the dark, crowded spaces in which immigrants lived and worked. More than any other architectural element, the stained-glass windows helped separate the worshipper from ordinary life and elevate the soul in preparation for prayer. In keeping with the prohibition against graven images, the windows are abstract in design with Star-of-David motifs.
