FUTURE PROJECTS

The final phase of the Synagogue restoration is predominately aesthetic. This work will repair and reintroduce the Synagogue's original, gorgeous stained glass, restore the building's historic paint finishes, and repair and re-install key elements, including a grand, central chandelier, exterior rooftop finials, and the sanctuary's original wooden pews. This is the work to which all involved in the restoration of this magnificent landmark have been most anticipating, and for which the Eldridge Street Project is currently raising funds. The following list describes this phase of work in more detail:

  • Plastering & fine arts historic paint finishes

  • Additional stained glass window restoration

  • Pointing and terra cotta restoration on the façade

  • Restoration of historic wooden staircase

  • Replacement of central chandelier

  • Restoration of sanctuary furnishings: Bimah, Lectern, Ark

  • Restoration of pews/benches and other historical furniture

  • Restoration of Victorian lighting fixtures

  • Creation of multi-media visitors center

  • Restoration of sanctuary and balcony foyers

  • Restoration of remaining lath and plaster work

  • Replacement of six ornamental finials on façade

  • Restoration of wooden benches, doors, floors and wainscoting

  • Restoration of mosaic floors

  • Acoustical systems

  • Additional bathrooms

  • New family history center and other program areas

  • Permanent exhibits
