Restoration
Philosophy The Eldridge Street Project is restoring the Eldridge Street
Synagogue to its original grandeur while preserving traces of its century-long
existence. Work Accomplished When
the Eldridge Street Project was formed in 1986 it was charged with the task of
rescuing the historic building from a state of near collapse. Had it not been
for the intervention of the Eldridge Street Project, the Synagogue would not be
standing today. Work
Underway Exciting projects currently underway include the installation
of new heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems as well as critical work
on the building's façade. Future
Projects The final phase of the restoration calls for the return of the
building's beautiful stained-glass windows, intricately painted surfaces and other
architecturally significant items. |
