In Conversation: Mike Stoller and Corky Hale Stoller

Grammy Award-winning songwriter Mike Stoller, who with the late Jerry Leiber wrote Jailhouse Rock, Stand by Me and other hits, is joined by his wife, acclaimed jazz pianist, harpist and singer Corky Hale. In this public conversation they talk about their extensive careers working with a Who’s Who of the popular and jazz music worlds ranging from Elvis Presley, The Coasters, Peggy Lee and The Drifters to Billie Holiday, Tony Bennett, and Barbra Streisand.

Fyvush Finkel, interviewed by his son Ian Finkel, will share memories of show business in the heyday of the Lower East Side. Actor Fyvush Finkel is best known as a star of Yiddish theater and for his frequent movie and television appearances, including recurring roles on Picket Fences and Boston Public.

Old World/New World Klezmer with Hot Pstromi

As part of our 125th Anniversary celebrations, Yale Strom and his band Hot Pstromi will put a new spin on traditional klezmer music, updating Lower East Side sounds that were all the rage when the 1887 Eldridge Street Synagogue first opened.

A Bintel Brief by Liana Finck

Artist Liana Finck presents original drawings from A Bintel Brief, her debut graphic novel based on The Forward’s beloved advice column. Finck’s single-page vignettes bring to life the heartbreaking and humorous dilemmas of young immigrants seeking advice on everything from matters of the heart to new world manners.

Los Angeles Times film critic Kenneth Turan and filmmaker Henry Bean explore the ways their Jewish upbringing and heritage influence their work in the film industry, including a look at Bean’s 2001 film about Judaism and anti-Semitism The Believer which starred Ryan Gosling.
