In celebration of the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Eldridge Street Synagogue, we are launching this new web exhibit featuring the collections of the Museum at Eldridge Street.

Our collections are organized here in three groups, each relating to a tour offered at the museum. Beyond the Façade focuses on our primary asset: the 1887 landmark Eldridge Street Synagogue. From Ellis to Eldridge looks at material relating to the immigrant men and women who came together to form the synagogue’s congregation, and looks at their experiences as Eastern European Jews in America, and at the Lower East Side neighborhood in which they lived, worked and prayed. Ways We Worship includes religious objects used during services at Eldridge Street and elsewhere in the neighborhood, as well as at personal items used by congregants during prayer.
