The Museum at Eldridge Street offers a rare opportunity for you to make a plaque dedication, in perpetuity, in memory of loved ones or in honor of your family, friends, business, or special mitzvah, through the Glass Block Tribute Wall within the National Historic Landmark 1887 Eldridge Street Synagogue. Each glass block dedication is available at $1,800, which can be paid over a one-to-two year period and is fully tax deductible. A permanent plaque listing all dedications will be affixed to the wall opposite the Glass Block Tribute wall on the synagogue's first floor.

High on the eastern wall in the sanctuary was originally a stained-glass rose window. This window was damaged over time and removed in the 1940s. At a time of dwindling resources and membership, the congregation replaced the original stained glass with economical glass blocks in a tablet-shaped form. This year, the Museum will return a monumental stained-glass design created by internationally renowed artist Kiki Smith and architect Deborah Gans — reflecting the aspirations of the immigrants who created this magnificiant landmark house of workship. The new window represents the final component of the Eldridge Street Synagogue restoration.

But what of the glass block window? What happens to that piece of history? The decision to replace the glass window with a new stained glass window was made possible by deciding to keep a restricted amount of the original glass bricks and create a "Tribute Wall" on the lower level of the synagogue so that this piece of history forever remains a physical part of the Eldridge Street Synagogue.

We can now offer to a finite number of people (208) the opportunity to create a lasting record of your participation in the salvation of an important piece of New York's history. The blocks can be designated as either "In honor of," "In memory of" or to commemorate an important event, birthday, marriage, anniversary, or business.

Your support is critical to us this year. We need to have all the dedications placed by the end of this summer so please don't miss this unique opportunity to support The Museum at Eldridge Street and this important piece of cultural, architectural and historical significance.
